Cosmetic Dentistry is a general term that describes dentistry aimed at enhancement or improvement of a person’s smile, usually without orthodontics, but not always. Cosmetic procedures can range from teeth whitening, replacing amalgam fillings, placing composite restorations, placing porcelain veneers or all-ceramic crowns, or any combination of the above. More complex cases require that your dentist and their laboratory have the necessary experience to successfully complete the case, and that they work closely together to ensure the best possible result.
In Canada there is no official designation for a dentist as “Cosmetic Dentist” so it’s not necessary that you see you a “Cosmetic Dentist”, unlike a “Cosmetic or Plastic Surgeon”, to have cosmetic dentistry done, but it is important to make sure the dentist you do see has experience and training with cosmetic cases and the support of an experienced dental laboratory.
